VA to Limit Apportionment of Disability Benefits to Dependents

The VA is changing its rules for apportioning (splitting) compensation, pension, and DIC benefits to dependents, stopping most new need-based apportionments effective Feb. 9, 2026. This change aims to avoid conflicts with state family court decisions, which are better equipped to handle complex family financial matters. Existing apportionments will continue, and exceptions remain for incarcerated or institutionalized veterans.
